Tokyo Aquatics Center

設計コンセプト

The facility is a world-class swimming facility that will serve as the center of swimming in Japan, providing a venue for international and domestic competitions, as well as for the training and development of the next generation of athletes. The purpose of this metropolitan sports facility is to provide a place where everyone, from children to the elderly, can engage in sports and health promotion, and to create a lively atmosphere in cooperation with the surrounding facilities such as Tatsumi no Mori Seaside Park. Yamashita Sekkei was in charge of this project from the participation in the basic design proposal announced in October 2014, through the completion of the new building construction in February 2020, to the completion of the renovation work (legacy work) after the Tokyo 2020 Games in February 2023. It was decided from the beginning of the planning stage that the building would be used for the Tokyo 2020 Games, and it was constructed to seat approximately 15,000 spectators at the time of the Games. After the Games, the seating was reduced to approximately 5,000 seats, and temporary areas such as a portion of the pedestrian deck and outdoor stairs were removed. The facility includes a main pool (50m x 25m, movable walls, movable floor) with approximately 5,000 spectator seats, one of the largest in Japan, a diving pool (25m x 25m x 5m), sub-pool (50m x 25m, movable walls, movable floor), diving training room, training room, studio, conference room, etc. The facility is also equipped with a diving training room, a training room, a studio, a meeting room, etc. It is expected to continue to be used as a venue for international and national swimming competitions, as a place to strengthen and nurture athletes, and as a swimming pool where sports enthusiasts can improve their health.
