Tokorozawa Konpeki Dormitory is a student dormitory built to enhance education and research activities on the Tokorozawa campus, and was also used as a pre-training camp for the Italian team at the Tokyo 2020 Games. The site faces the northern edge of the campus, which is rich in nature and is located along the Sayama Hills, and we aimed to create a facility that blends in with the local landscape and improves the living, regional, and global environment. The balconies of the dormitory rooms on the second through fifth floors are covered with perforated folded-plate screens, allowing residents to control their privacy according to their preferences. At the same time, the screens help to promote energy conservation by reducing direct solar radiation to the exterior walls and prevent bird strikes on the birds that inhabit the area.
