This is a cultural exchange centre consisting of a hall, a library and the Kumano Studies Centre, located in an environment where a unique culture has been nurtured as the centre of the Kumano faith. We wanted to create a public space that would last and grow over time by layering two spaces in this complex: “a library that provides a bird’s-eye view of the unique regional landscape formed by history” and “a hall that can be transformed into a music hall, experimental theatre or art museum = a square where everyone can gather and work”.
