The site faces Shijo Dori, the main street of Kyoto City, and is directly connected to Shijo Subway Station, where the Yamahoko floats of the Gion Festival have been parading since ancient times. The first basement floor is an open-air space with a reception desk and a restaurant that receives soft natural light, while the second through ninth floors consist of 192 guest rooms in 35 different categories, in a plan that makes maximum use of the site’s volume. As the building faces an arcade street, the first floor is planned to be occupied by tenants that will bring liveliness to the town, while the exterior is designed to be simple and not exaggerate the history and serenity of Kyoto.
