Shiinoki Cultural Complex, Ishikawa PrefectureKanazawa-shi, Ishikawa Prefecture

Concept

Retaining the historical appearance of the original Ishikawa Prefectural Government building completed in 1924, the Shiinoki Cultural Complex preserves and renews the facility as a place for fostering new culture. In converting the preserved portion, we wanted to take advantage of the exterior and interior design and spatial features. The extension to the north makes extensive use of glass for high transparency, giving expansive views of the historical environment of Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Garden. Looking at the complex from the outside, one can see the rich complexity of history along with activities leading to new cultural creation.
